Webinar “AI Privacy Risks and Mitigations – Large Language Models”, 6 June 2025

The Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP) invites you to a free webinar on “AI Privacy Risks and Mitigations”, which will take place on 6 June 2025 at 11:00 CET. The webinar will be delivered by Isabel Barberá, the author of the report developed within the EDPB Support Pool of Experts initiative:
AI Privacy Risks & Mitigations – Large Language Models (LLMs).

Please note that the webinar is fully booked and registration is now closed.

The report “AI Privacy Risks & Mitigations – Large Language Models (LLMs)” proposes a comprehensive risk management methodology for LLM systems, accompanied by a series of practical measures to mitigate common privacy risks.

In addition, it presents real-world use cases illustrating the application of the risk management framework:

  • Use case 1: A virtual assistant (chatbot) for handling customer queries

  • Use case 2: An LLM system for monitoring and supporting student progress

  • Use case 3: An AI assistant for travel and schedule management

Large Language Models (LLMs) represent a significant breakthrough in artificial intelligence. These machine learning models are designed to process and generate human-like language and are trained on extensive datasets. Their applications range from text generation and summarisation, to coding assistance, sentiment analysis, and more.

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) launched this project within the Support Pool of Experts Programme, at the request of the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP).

The report provides a systematic approach to identifying, assessing, and mitigating privacy and data protection risks associated with LLM systems.

It aims to support data protection authorities in gaining a holistic understanding of LLM functioning and the related risks.

During the webinar, Isabel Barberá, the report’s author and external expert under the EDPB programme, will present the full risk management methodology, explain specific mitigation measures, and respond to participants’ questions.

Objectives of the Webinar

To support developers and users of LLM systems in systematically identifying, assessing, and mitigating privacy and data protection risks, fully aligned with:

  • Article 25 GDPR (Privacy by design and by default)

  • Article 32 GDPR (Security of processing)

The methodology presented is not a substitute for a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) under Article 35 GDPR, but rather a complementary tool, specifically focused on risks associated with Large Language Models.

Participants will gain deeper insights into LLM system architecture and data flows, and acquire knowledge on criteria for identifying and assessing risks, as well as concrete mitigation measures.
